AlwaysUrban Branches out to Andersonville

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Along with other fine purveyors of urban apparel, acessories, home accents, and the like, AlwaysUrban is getting some brick and mortar in Andersonville.  We’ve teamed up with RayMark, the lords of Andersonville, and an eclectic group of companies to bring you what’s fresh.  The galleria should open its doors in November.  Book it.  We’ll keep you posted.

Burton Flagship Store-Chicago

Burton Lounge

The Snow G-ds shined on Chicago early this winter by delivering a Burton Flagship Store to downtown.  This is only one of five flagship stores in the world and its totally rad.  It’s three floors of new gear, new technology, and a very knowledgeable sales staff.  I figured it would take me 5 minutes to get in and out.  30 minutes later I was leaving with a catalog, and a need for a Burton Supermodel with a Carbon I-Beam.  If you like to ride, or your thinking about getting into riding, definitely check it out.

Cubs are in the playoffs!

Wrigley

As you may or may not know, we are based in Chicago and are about 6 blocks from Wrigley Field and we are pumped for the Cubs playoff run.  You can bet that we will be watching the games, and perhaps slightly intoxicated.

Place your bets, place your bets…

The Odds are not in your favor. There is a 100% we are all going down. And I bet most of you realize the most dangerous thing you do every day is driving 81 feet per second (that’s 55 mph) 4 feet away from another person who is driving while eating a bacon cheeseburger (mmm, bacon).

But I doubt many of us knew how high on the “danger of death” list getting hit by an asteroid is! That is how I want to go. This graphic is from a speech given at the annual TED conference, where a room full of the best-and-brightest brainstorm about all sorts of interesting stuff. If you like Wired Magazine you should definitely check this out.

FYI, a long-long-time-ago, basically in the same place you are sitting right now a huuuuge asteroid hit the earth. It catapulted a huge chunk of molten rock into the stratosphere which we now call the moon. Violent stuff. Big boom.

Better Hide the Stash Better…

Like Chris Rock says, every guy has some porn stashed someplace. Here is a great reason to put a little more effort into hiding it.

Radiohead takes a piss on the major labels…

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

The tirelessly creative band Radiohead has a new album coming out called “In Rainbows”. I haven’t heard any of the album yet, but the band is already generating a ton of press for the creative way that they are selling the album. Basically, you can choose to pay whatever you want to download the album as mp3 files. Additionally, there is a really intense, and feature-packed box set available for something like $60-80. So far, Radiohead’s management have stated that more fans have pre-ordered the box set, which has to serve as a huge FU to the music distribution hierarchy who surely won’t be able to fathom why fans might choose to pay something for music that they could otherwise get for free.

I’m a casual fan of Radiohead, I’m setting my personal price for “In Rainbows” at about $6. But truthfully, I wouldn’t even be thinking about buying it otherwise unless one of my friends told me it was exceptional. Now I’m interested just because I respect their balls.
